As a Christian, how should I manage my financial picture?

Have you ever stopped and wondered how managing your finances as a Christian should be different from that of the world?  Have you ever felt like there was more that you should do as a Believer regarding the stewardship of what you have been entrusted? Do you ever find yourself chasing more things of the world and lacking contentment in what you’ve been provided?

For us the answer has been: absolutely yes.  But then the question is what does God’s word say about managing money and how are you to go about it in this present age?

As a Certified Kingdom Advisor and Certified Financial Planner, the goal is to integrate biblical principles of stewardship with sound financial strategies and biblically responsible investing to help you in managing the resources God has placed in your life.

The Bible has over 2,300 verses on money and possessions.  15% of Jesus’ preaching deals with money and possessions, including 11 out of his 39 parables.  It’s an important topic that God has spent quite a bit of space on to get our attention.

Here’s the interesting thing though: scripture provides a lot of principles and rarely prescriptions with money.  We like to operate alongside the Bible in that manner as well.  We do not subscribe to poverty theology or the prosperity gospel, but rather Biblical wisdom in stewardship and trusting in God as your provider - not in money, stocks, your paycheck, etc.

What is Christian Stewardship?

Christian stewardship is more than just budgeting or giving. It's a holistic approach to managing all of God's resources entrusted to us – including our finances, time, talents, and influence – for His glory and the advancement of His Kingdom. It recognizes, as stewards, we are not owners of anything, but managers of what God has graciously provided. It's about aligning our financial decisions with our faith, seeking to honor God in every aspect of our financial lives. And here is the really interesting thing: stewardship is one discipline of the faith that cannot be faked.  Therefore our focus includes:

  • Recognizing God's Ownership: Understanding that everything we have comes from God and belongs to Him (Psalm 24:1).

  • Living with Contentment: Defining financial finish lines and finding joy and satisfaction in God's provision, rather than chasing after material possessions (1 Timothy 6:6-8, Philippians 4:11-13).

  • Practicing Generosity: Giving generously to support the work of God's Kingdom and those in need (2 Corinthians 9:6-7, 1 Timothy 6:18-19).

  • Being a Wise Steward: Managing our resources responsibly, planning for the future, and avoiding debt (Proverbs 27:18, Proverbs 22:7).

  • Seeking Godly Counsel: Praying for wisdom and seeking advice from trusted advisors who share our values. (James 1:5, Proverbs 11:14)
